Last week we attended the Special Occasions and Queen Street Linens Annual Linen Seminar in Lancaster, PA at the Quilt and Textile Museum. Celebrating their 30th Anniversary, Special Occasions and Queen Street Linens had close to 100 attendees. Claudia Himes revealed her newest linens that she has added to her inventory and she shared her insights on whats trending in the world of special event fabrics.
The seminar took place at the Quilt and Textile Museum, which is a beautiful venue for special events in quaint downtown Lancaster, Pa.
Claudia is a wonderful speaker and entertaines her clients with witty and clever comments.
“You need to dress the part in order to play the part, then keep dressing the part until you start playing the part so well you actually ARE the part.”
The first round of linens focused on fashion forward fabrics for 2013 and color blocking techniques.
She then spoke about the popular trend of incorporating reflective metallics and prints with patterns, bold colors and textures.
Claudia believes there should be “enough energy in the event linen to give a little tension and life to the party.”
Finally the third round is where TableArt brought the “jewelry” to the tabletops.
As Claudia states, “Dressing for an event is like dressing for an evening out on the town; the linens are the dress, the flowers are the jewelry, and the lighting is the makeup.”
The pink roses in the pink mercury vessels added a touch of sophistication on this beautiful pink shimmery “Rose Crush” overlay.

We love this combination of cherry bark and birch bark vessels filled with roses and fresh quince.
A glass vase filled with an abundance of roses looks stunning on “Penelope” Over “Gold Satin” linen especially next to the “Confetti” linen.

Following the seminar, everyone was invited to take photographs and stay for a workshop to learn how to dress a serpentine table, pin linen “belts”, and create center pleats on buffet tables.
