Brilliant moments of creative inspiration happen when you least expect them. When I was in between appointments in NYC and I decided to use the 30 minutes of time to check out
The Museum of Arts and Design located in Columbus Circle.
On the 6th floor, of the museum, there is an Open Studios program.
Every day artists actively work on a project in materials such as ceramics,
fiber, mixed media, glass, metals and much more.
Chris Vivas was there working in ceramics. It was fascinating to be able to speak with him directly about his vision and philosophy as he was creating.
Using everyday coffee cups as molds, he covered them in plaster to express
the dichotomy between fragility and strength.
Seeing his work inspired me to take more chances with my own painting.
I highly recommend visiting The Modern Museum of Arts
and experiencing the Open Studios in addition to the current exhibits.
If you go..say Hi to Chris for me!
